I Am That –
Talks With Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Every now and then a book comes along that has the spiritual potency to put us directly in touch with who we really are.
The words are simple, stirring, energizing, and they penetrate the heart like an arrow shot by God. Common sense and ultimate truth alchemically combine in the teachings of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, making them at once so rare and recondite, and yet so approachable and apprehensible.
I Am That is a collection of question and answer sessions that took place at Maharaj’s loft in Bombay (present day Mumbai), during the years 1966-1973. Sincere seekers ask the critical questions that we all must eventually come to terms with if we desire an end to suffering. The answers arise from a Knowing that is timeless, spaceless, and infinite. Within the divinely charged responses is an invitation, even a beckoning, for us to come and see that We Are That.

Forgetting your Self is the greatest injury; all the calamities flow from it. Take care of the most important, the lesser will take care of itself.
In this class we are going to immerse ourselves in this amazing book through a careful study and practice of Sri Nisargadatta’s timeless teachings that transcend culture, religion, and creed. Greater understanding and absorption will come about through our many discussions, group meditations, assigned readings, and homework.
Even if you are familiar with Maharaj’s teachings, I invite you to join us and plumb a bit deeper into the limitless depths of the Self, open up even wider to the boundless stillness of the spiritual sky.
The present ‘I am’ is as false as the ‘I was’ and ‘I shall be.’ It is merely an idea in the mind, an impression left by memory, and the separate identity it creates is false. This habit of referring to a false centre must be done away with; the notion: ‘I see,’ ‘I think,’ ‘I do,’ must disappear from the field of consciousness; what remains when the false is no more, is real.
Our eight weeks on Zoom begins Wednesday January 21st, from 7:00pm-8:30pm. Tuition is $150.

We will be using the 1999 edition of I Am That for our class readings. It is fine to use a different edition, but the pagination will probably not match. Click here, or on the book image for a link to the 1999 edition.
